The Remembrance of Earth’s Past series is a staple in the modern hard-SF genre. Despite the enormous cultural impact of the saga, I found that almost all editions of the books did not represent the tone of the series well, and lacked cohesion between volumes.
I designed a set of three complete books, using elements of traditional grid design, brutalist principles, and modernism. I aimed to draw attention to the black profile of the books to instill a sense of monolithic presence and weightiness.
I created minimalist illustrations for each cover, depicting a key moment from each book. The monochrome print on each book represents the tonal shift of the series as it progresses by hue.
