ASB Good As Gold is a segment on TV1's Seven Sharp to celebrate and show some love to amazing Kiwis. It's an initiative recognising, rewarding and helping wonderful people in our community.
Because the recognition currently has no physical award or keepsake, ASB created a competition to design an an award for the segment. The brief was to pitch a design concept that was “a uniquely Kiwi trophy or memento to honour our winners of ASB Good as Gold award”.
My submission for the award represents the story and actions of the recipient, and how it spreads outwards through their community to inspire others. The ripples also echo the circular Maori form of Porowhita, representing the circle of life. Gold is a symbol of excellence, achievement, and value, and is central to the existing themes of the ASB Good as Gold award.
The Good as Gold award has a second component, a ring, that forms part of the overall composition. This ring is magnetically fastened to the plate, but can be removed from the main award to become a uniquely innovative keepsake that explores the idea of personalisation. The award bears the mark of the recipient, and the recipient can also choose to bear the mark of the award.
